Dog Day Afternoon

I love the imprompt too events at the farm.  A few Saturdays ago the farm family brought all their dogs to the farm.  We all hung out in the goat pen and watched the dogs play.  The goat pen is the only one that the Dogs can’t escape from.

The in farm Chiropractor was part of the day’s events bringing her 3 labs and checking me after my tumble earlier that day.  Cuervo and I were cantering around the riding ring when he stumbled and could not recover.  He went down and I was not able to get off of him quick enough.  Cuervo came out fine, I just had whip lash and a sprained ankle.

The cats looked on at the events from the safety of the porch, completely unamused by the dog’s antics.

A Hurricane?

I thought I left these behind when I left Florida.  So in preparation we filled all the buckets and water troughs, locked up the goats and chickens.  In the main barn every stall was full, Daltona and Nova was in one stall and the Donkeys were in the aisle.

The next day we emerge to find that we were very fortunate.  Only one tree came down on a back fence, but that was easily fixed.  The picture here is in our Neighbor’s yard.  If it went he other way it would have been in the riding ring.  The hardest part was loosing electricity for 6 days. I had to work from a friend’s house and am very greatful for the help on the farm when I could not be there.  We had 2 barrels full of water, which also had to be filled and transported from the friends who had electricity. Other friends lent us a generator so it made it a little easier.  A very big thanks to all the friends who helped me through it.  I could not have done it with out you.

What about Bob?

GSF welcomes Bob the mule.  He is staying with us for only a couple of weeks while training with Mitch.  He is a funny guy.  Curious and not afraid, but yet stubborn like the donkeys.  Best of luck with this one Mitch.  ðŸ™‚

Fall at the Farm

The air is getting crisp.  The leaves are turning and burning. Not looking forward to the bitter cold of winter but the cooler days are nice for now.

Shadow has definately settled into the farm life and is loving it.  He is doing a great job and exactly what I got him for, plus so much more.

When I am riding him the ring he follows me non stop in circles.  The picture of him a piper laying down is from when we had a 3 hour lesson with Mitch. We were all taking a quick break.

GSF’s Littlest Lesson Leads

At the end of the lesson our youngest student enjoyed leading her mom and brother around the ring. She is doing so well and has such confidence.  I have been enjoying it as much as she has!

Saturday trail rides

The first ride of the day was instead of a lesson. As we rode past the donkeys Cuervo nickered to say hi. It was so sweet, like he missed them.

The second ride was a much larger group. With some first timers. One of them was his first trail ride ever. He loved it, and Nash was very good for him.

The Weekend in Pictures

Since we have temporarily ran out of stalls I decided to bring the donkeys up front to live with the goats.  They are not too happy about the move and are definitely taking the time to get used to each other.  The good part is that Frodo is not chasing the donkeys, in fact it is the exact opposite and the donkeys back down with the goats challenge them. The one picture is from my front porch.

While watching them settle in and making sure they all get along I hung out with the goats.  They were enjoying the time and posed for some pictures.  Then decided to play head butt with a friend.

That afternoon we went out on a road ride.  It was Nova’s first time out with us on the quiet country back roads.  He did really well!  And apparently it was so romantic that our engaged friends decided to share a kiss on horseback!

Cassanova is like a goofy little kid.  On the cross ties, instead of stamping his hooves to get rid of flies he crosses his legs and rubs them off.  Such talent and balance for a 3 year old!

Friends and New Faces: Not the usual crowd for a trail ride.

Apple Jacks loves the water.  We took him and Casey on a trail to a nearby creek.  Apple went in and started splashing around.  Casey was not that amused.
