Another Student Returns

I was so excited last week when my youngest student returned for lessons last week.  Her mom said she was asking all winter long to start riding again.  I was so impressed with what she remembered from last summer.  She was so happy to be back in the saddle again!2013-04-18_17-42-56_577 2013-04-18_17-53-50_637

Save Nash: Week 2

I would like to thank Nash’s supporters, after less than 1 week we are off to a great start. As you know every little bit helps, and your donation will go towards saving a wonderful horse. Please also share we need to get the word out. Thank you so much!

At long last a Riding Ring

We have endured the mud for 2 years and I am excited to let you know I finally had a riding ring put in last week!  In two days Tich General Services dug up and leveled the surface then received and spread 6 tri-axles of Screenings. Thanks also goes to the farm’s neighbor and boarder for the use of their heavy machinery.

Last year’s students returns

With the warmer weather and longer days I am excited to see last year’s students returning for lessons.  She did a great job getting back in the saddle and remembered everything.  It’s like riding a bike I said.  After the lesson she and her mom went to say hi to the horses.  Nashy my lover boy really enjoyed the hugs and kisses.

Family fun day on the farm

A few friends and old colleagues came to visit the farm on Sunday.  Their kids loved it. We started out visiting the goats and donkeys.

Then moved on to say hi to the chickens.2013-04-07_13-38-25_363

Then out to the barn to meet the horses.  Casey was so patient while I showed the kids how to brush him and clean out his hooves.2013-04-07_15-51-19_878

Then for the pony rides.  Dads were there for stability and balance.  I simply lead Casey around.  You should have seen the smiles on their faces

Even Roxy (my friends dog) got into the going around in circles.  We almost tripped over her a few times.  As you can see Casey didn’t care at all.

The great day ended with sitting on the tractor.

A very happy Easter at the Golden Spike

This Easter I had the privilege to give three beautiful girls their first horseback riding lesson.  For two of them it was a complete surprise. You should have seen the look on their faces when they got to the farm and were told they get to have a lesson on a pony.  Then the elation turned to nervousness, when they realized their sized compared to the “giant beast” they were going to spend the next hour or so with.  After a few walks around and some confidence building we go back to the lesson.  Here at the farm the lesson starts with the moment you step through the gate. So the girls learn about cleaning and tacking a horse before they even got on.  It was a great day and a true joy to share the farm and the horses with them.

Cuervo’s new lease on life

A long time lesson taker and now friend decided to partial lease Cuervo instead of continuing lessons.  Now she can come and visit Cuervo any time that I am not using him for a lesson or trail ride.  Congrats Cuervo on your new Step Mom.

I have a few more horses available for partial lease, let me know if your are interested in learning more about this way to ease yourself into horse ownership.

Has spring finally sprung?

Yesterday was a great day at the farm with all sorts of activities.   Starting with Izzy arriving, then a trail ride followed by beginner lessons.

Two sisters and their first lesson while there was some expected nervousness they were also naturals!  I have a feeling they loved the lesson as much as I loved giving it.  I am so looking forward to the spring and summer and many more lessons this season.2013-03-30_13-47-56_915 2013-03-30_13-33-32_915 2013-03-30_13-33-29_121

My day ended with a bonfire with friends over looking the donkeys in their new home with the goats.

Welcome Izzy!

GSF is pleased to welcome Izzy to the farm family.  Izzy is a 16 year old thoroughbred princess who is driving all the boys wild.  She has taken the farm’s last open stall, so I am very pleased to say there is no more room at the Inn!
