Lessons, tours and trims

I have to say I am very impressed by my two lessons that have stuck with me this winter. Saturday I was sick and the riding ring is a  mud bowl. So I had to think out of the box and stay on the driveway. I even had one of them lay down on the job.
I am also exited to say that I showed the farm to a new boarder. So come April all the stalls will be filled.
Lastly our ferrier was here today. He trimmed 7 horses and 2 donkeys. Luckily all the horses feet are doing real good. No problems at all despite the crazy wet weather.

Snow: it sure is pretty

But… I sure am sick of it. Last week we had 2 days of snow and one day of rain. The ground is so saturated you sink 3 inches just walking in the grass. Can’t wait for spring! Maybe it will be a dry one. Haha!

How long is winter?

Not much going on at the farm. It has been too cold to ride or have lessons. But all the animals are doing fine! The horses ran and played in the snow after being cooped up during the storm. Luckily Nemo only dropped 3 inches of snow on us .

Hay Day

How do you keep warm in the winter?

We moved 132 bales of hay from the truck to the hay loft yesterday. Luckily this crazy weather held out for the delivery and unloading.  Thanks as always to the farm family for your help.

The farm family celebrated Dalton’s mom’s 18th birthday with a surprise party.  It was a great night with a great group of “rescues.”  Yes not only does the farm rescue most of it’s animals it also rescues people and we all become family.

Oh Winter how I hate thee

Let me count the ways:

  1. Frozen water buckets
  2. Tractor wont start
  3. Doors frozen shut
  4. So cold you loose feeling in fingers and toes

I had 5 yards of bedding delivered this week, usually I open both doors to the shavings shed and use the tractor to push it in.  This week I had to shovel it all it by hand. OH the joys of owning a horse farm.  I keep teling myself in moments like those that I am living the dream.

Last weekend – before the deep freeze – was a great weekend for a trail ride.  It is always fun getting new friends on horses, especially when they haven’t ridden since childhood.

Foggy Day

The farm roof needed some repairs so we jammed to Splinter (a local band) while working today. Click here to see the video of a 360 view of the front of the farm.
